yoga, shots, colds, and the responsibility of a blog site

Well, it's been awhile since our last entry. I realize that part of having a blog site devoted to a particular event means that you have to write something every once in awhile; and hopefully it'll be of interest to somebody. Here's what's been going on:
I caught a cold the day after the election. I think my immune system just collapsed after all the suspense. I had already planned a trip to New York for two days after the election to visit Katie so off I went, fortified with Kleenex, cough drops, and sudafed. I was the kind of guy you hate to sit next to on a plane. It got worse; in NYC my throat sort of closed up and I lost my voice; but I soldiered on. The flight back was even more difficult. By then I had a tickle in my throat that produced spasms of coughing that even Hall's Mentholyptus couldn't touch. I'm surprised my seatmates didn't punch a hole in the window and squeeze me out Goldfinger style.
Okay... fast forward two weeks: I'm on the mend but still not 100%. Oren & I go to the Travel Medicine Clinic at the University of Washington to talk about pills and inoculations we're going to need for our trip. The list is long: shots for Hep A, tetanus, and Japanese Encephalitis; pills for malaria, dysentery, and typhoid. We get our shots and two days later my throat feels like razor blades again and I spend the weekend in bed. My theory: pumping all those vaccines into my already overloaded immune system caused the original virus to come roaring back.
Now it's December 1st. We got our second Encephalitis inoculation yesterday and I'm feeling fine... but Oren's sick. (I don't think he has Japanese Encephalitis though).
Oh yes, and yoga. we decided part of our training should involve something that will allow us to sit on the floor and use squat toilets, so we enrolled. So far we're going but apparently never on the same night. The instructor always asks us where our friend is. I think she thinks we're insane....
